As a wildlife artist, I am very fortunate to be based in Pembrokeshire, one of the most beautiful and varied landscapes in the British Isles. The coastline and the Preseli Mountains support a huge range of flora and fauna; majestic seabirds, mammals such as hare and badger, and spring hedgerows unsurpassed anywhere in the country are just a few of the delights of my home county. Garden visitors also offer marvelous opportunities to view our native wildlife up close and to appreciate the delicate beauty in the details...
I am constantly moved, inspired and challenged to capture those details in my watercolour paintings, whether I am painting a bird or animal study, or a botanical art piece.
No less important is the innate character of the subject which must shine through... especially when I am creating a pet portrait. Our cats and dogs are often as individual and full of character as our relatives, and conveying the personality of a much loved companion is a great pleasure.
